Newspapers' one-day nirvana

When Obama was elected last Tuesday, daily newspapers sold out, as people rushed out to buy a keepsake. Printing out a Web page just doesn't do the trick when it comes to historic moments.

I assume Whitcomb's day of nirvana refers to a day of joy or ecstasy but nirvana primarily refers to the extinction of the flame of life which seems to be happening to newspapers but I hope not in my lifetime.
