Bernard Beckwith and Christian Simpson were fined $200 each after being found guilty of
indecent exposure for jumping naked into Maine's Moosehead Lake last summer after the Black Frog Restaurant in Greenville offered a free prime-rib sandwich to skinny-dipping customers -- an offer that would presumably be only feasible during the region's summer, which lasts about two weeks.
In these straitened times, such offers and acceptance of free food should be encouraged, not brutally suppressed. The other customers didn't complain, after all -- though, sadly, a few noncustomers in the neighborhood did.
There was further inequity: The court, perhaps swayed by aesthetics, dropped charges against a female, Crystal Stilwell (glorious name!) who joined the guys in the free-food project.
