Here's Distant Buildings, by superb Rhode Island colorist Florence Leif. The Bert Gallery, in Providence, is putting on a show of her paintings March 24-June 19 called Becoming Modern: Florence Leif (1913-1968).

Ms. Leif, in a career shortened by cancer, moved from traditionalism to the American modernism well seen in the likes of John Marin's work.
